Our goal is to find suitable, loving, homes for retired racing greyhounds. Encourage a more positive image of the greyhound and stimulate the public’s desire to own a greyhound as a family pet.
The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is a national initiative preparing and promoting retired greyhounds as pets that Tasracing operates in Tasmania. Our goal is to prepare these loveable dogs to transition from elite athlete to couch potatoes and find a permanent home to suit them after retiring from their racing career, as well as educate the public on what gentle and affectionate pets these dogs really are.
GAP is run by a dedicated and professional team of passionate dog-lovers that feel strongly about the welfare of Greyhounds. GAP work tirelessly and lovingly to work with each and every Greyhound to provide the dogs with the tools they need in their transition into pet life.
GAP Tas undertake muzzle free assessments on all greyhounds available for adoption and provide a special GAP green collar to signify the greyhound, if successful, is approved to be muzzle free in public. Gap is now offering muzzle free exemption assessments to people with greyhounds not adopted from Gap, send us your details through the contact us tab and we will send you out the information.
GAP Tas is run by a team of people passionate about greyhounds and about educating the wider community that greyhounds make wonderful pets. Led by the Manager the Animal Care attendants deliver the daily enrichment, socialising and training programs to all the greyhounds and social animals at the GAP facility. The team are happy to assist prospective and new greyhound owners in any way.
